Hotel Grand Shambala starts operation in Muktinath

Hotel Grand Shambala has formally started operations at Muktinath, a little below the famous Muktinath Temple, to provide comfortable accommodation to pilgrims as well as tourists.

The hotel has modern facilities like Wi-Fi, restaurant, bar, café and rooms with attached bathroom and TV.


"We have invested Rs 300 million in the hotel," Namgya Wangdi, proprietor of the hotel said, expressing hope that tourism will revive soon.

Wangdi, who has been operating Korean restaurant Hankook Sarang in Thamel for more than a decade, said the hotel aims to cater to domestic tourists as Muktinath area is becoming a popular destination among Nepalis.

Rooms in the hotel are priced between Rs 800 and Rs 1,500 depending on the facilities available. It also has common room and dormitory facility. The hotel has 19 rooms with attached bathroom and four dormitories.

"We charge only Rs 1,500 for dormitory which can accommodate as much as 16 people," said Wangdi.

The hotel also provides guide and porter facility, travel information and parking facilities. Similarly, it also organizes pony trek for interested people. The restaurant in the hotel serves Continental, Italian, Chinese and Korean as well as Nepali food.

According to Wangdi, Hotel Grand Shambala is the only hotel in the area that serves Korean food. It also offers local food like Yak dried meat, Mustang potato, Dhido and Apple brandy, among others.
